COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

OSHA CONSTRUCTION SAFETY & HEALTH:   

This 10 or 32-hour course provides trainees with information on the contents of the OSHA 1926 Code of Federal Regulation standards to fulfill OSHA’s training requirements.  The course is presented by instructors who have completed the OSHA 500 training recognized by the OSHA Training Institute.  Trainees learn about the standards that should be adhered to on construction sites and the issues in creating a safe and healthy work environment.
 
ASBESTOS ABATEMENT WORKER:    
This 40 hour course for asbestos abatement worker training has been approved in all EPA Regions. The course focuses on the hazards of asbestos, the specific procedures used on the job, and the legal rights of the workers. Participants are actively involved in learning through group and “hands-on” exercises. Information is provided on contracts, insurance and liability issues, respirators and fit testing, record keeping, air monitoring and supervisory techniques. THIS COURSE REQUIRES PROPER ATTIRE:  WORK BOOTS, WORK SHIRT AND WORK PANTS.  ANNUAL RECERTIFICATION REFRESHER REQUIRED.  
 
ASBESTOS ABATEMENT SUPERVISOR:   
This course builds on the information provided in the 40-hour Asbestos Abatement Worker course.  Emphasis is placed on enhancing leadership and communication skills.  PREREQUISITE:  40-HOUR ASBESTOS ABATEMENT WORKER RECOMMENDED.  REQUIRES PROPER ATTIRE:  WORK BOOTS, WORK SHIRT AND WORK PANTS.  ANNUAL RECERTIFICATION REFRESHER REQUIRED.
 
 
HAZARDOUS WASTE WORKER COURSE:  
This 40 hour course meet the min. requirements of initial off-site instruction for employees involved in hazardous waste operations under CERCLA, RCRA, or state or local governments. Course content covers legal rights, health effects, hazard recognition and site safety, personal protective equipment, decontamination, site safety and health plans, safe handling techniques, sampling and air monitoring techniques, and community relations. Trainees are required to complete hands-on exercises on a mock hazardous waste site. Also includes 8-hour confined space instruction.  REQUIRES PROPER ATTIRE:  WORK BOOTS, WORK SHIRT AND WORK PANTS.  ANNUAL RECERTIFICATION REFRESHER REQUIRED.
 
HAZARD COMMUNICATION:
This 4-hour course has been developed to assist Laborers’ to more fully understand the requirements of the OSHA Hazard Communication Standard. Completion of the program is intended to supplement the training a contractor must provide the worker on the job.
 
 
LEAD ABATEMENT WORKER:  
This 40-hour course will provide workers  with information and abatements used to safely remove or encapsulate various materials containing lead. Topics include problems and possible solutions, current regulations, worker safety, preparation, containment and clean-up of lead contaminated areas. About one third of class time will include hands-on training.  REQUIRES PROPER ATTIRE:  WORK BOOTS, WORK SHIRT AND WORK PANTS.  ANNUAL RECERTIFICATION REFRESHER REQUIRED.
 
 
LEAD ABATEMENT SUPERVISOR COURSE:   
This course builds on the information proved in the Lead Abatement Worker course and provides abatement supervisors with information on their responsibilities during abatement projects.  PREREQUISITE:  40-HOUR LEAD ABATEMENT WORKER RECOMMENDED.  REQUIRES PROPER ATTIRE:  WORK BOOTS, WORK SHIRT AND WORK PANTS.  ANNUAL RECERTIFICATION REFRESHER REQUIRED.
 
MASON TENDING:  
A 40 hour course with emphasis on hands-on exercises has been developed.  Course topics include tools and equipment, mortar mixing and specifications, material estimating and stocking, scaffolding and pertinent safety information.  Also covers basic use of builder’s levels and builder’s transit.  PROPER ATTIRE REQUIRED:  WORK BOOTS, WORK SHIRT AND WORK PANTS.

PIPE LAYING:
A 40 hour course designed to provide laborers with the knowledge and hands-on experiences to become a skilled and productive member of a pipe laying crew.  The course includes general techniques, shoring, line and grade, manholes and inverts, gravity flow systems and pressure pipe systems. PROPER ATTIRE REQUIRED:  WORK BOOTS, WORK SHIRT AND WORK PANTS.

ROD TYING:  
40 hour course that will familiarize you with various types, shapes and diameters of reinforcing steel, with the hand tools utilized for placement and securing.  There will be special emphasis placed on layout and framework of the projects that you will build.  PROPER ATTIRE REQUIRED:  WORK BOOTS, WORK SHIRT AND WORK PANTS.
 
40-HOUR CONCRETE COURSE:  
This course includes safety, preparation testing, placement and consolidation procedures. Curing, stripping and clean-up will also be covered to properly assist associated crafts.  PROPER ATTIRE REQUIRED:  WORK BOOTS, WORK SHIRT AND WORK PANTS.     back
 
 
RIGGING & SIGNALING:  
16 hour course in which students learn how to tie  knots and hitches used in construction activities.  The safety hazards associated with ropes, cables, slings, rigging hardware, lift capacities, load weights and sling angles are discussed. Students also learn about the responsibilities of flaggers, as well as the legal liabilities, traffic control principles, proper flagging signals, job hazards, and PPE.  PROPER ATTIRE REQUIRED:  WORK BOOTS, WORK SHIRT AND WORK PANTS.
 
 
40/80 Hour SCAFFOLD BUILDING:  
Provides  basic techniques, rules and regulations on ladders and scaffolds. Also included is the basic fundamentals and hands-on procedures for building outside and inside corner, radius and incline scaffold.  PROPER ATTIRE REQUIRED:  WORK BOOTS, WORK SHIRT AND WORK PANTS.

 
8-HOUR SCAFFOLD USER: 
This course fulfills all OSHA scaffold training requirements for 29 CFR 1926.454(a).  Covers introduction to scaffolds, summary of OSHA standards, general ladder requirements, fall protection, electrical, and loading scaffolds.  
 
 
CONFINED SPACE RESCUE:  
This 24 hour course is designed for workers who work in confined spaces. This course provides specific information on hazards associated with confined spaces. Topics covered are entry procedures, confined space permits, personal protective equipment, ventilation and air monitoring procedures.  Also covers information pertaining to permit and non-permit required spaces. THIS COURSE REQUIRES PROPER ATTIRE:  WORK BOOTS, WORK SHIRT AND WORK PANTS.
 
 
BLUE PRINT READING:  
This 40 hour course is designed for the beginner. You will be introduced to simple structural drawings and develop building and highway plan reading skills.
 
 
LINE & GRADE:
This comprehensive course is designed to provide the skills for checking grade. Topics include: measurement systems, stationing, slope expressions, construction referencing systems, slope staking, material quantity calculations and others.  THIS COURSE REQUIRES PROPER ATTIRE:  WORK BOOTS, WORK SHIRT AND WORK PANTS.
 
 
AIR AND COMPACTION TOOLS:
This course includes safety procedures and techniques, maintenance of pavement breakers, chipping guns, rotary hammer and other air tools associated with the air compressor.  Also includes use of plate and shoe tampers and associated drum rollers.  THIS COURSE REQUIRES PROPER ATTIRE:  WORK BOOTS, WORK SHIRT AND WORK PANTS.
 
 
FIRST AID / CPR/ AED:  
An 8 hour course. Hands-on training session developed by the National Safety Council. Completion of the course meets OSHA requirements and provides the worker with CPR and First Aid certification. 
 
 
FLAGGER SAFETY:
Safety information for flaggers is provided to address an area where one-third of highway work zone workers suffer fatalities each year. Proper positioning, use of personal protective equipment, flagging techniques, and suggestions on dealing with the general public is covered in this section. Information is based on well recognized  information used in approved flagger courses already utilized  by the industry, and as presented in Pennsylvania publication #203.
 
WORK ZONE SAFETY:
This course covers the proper use of control devices such as signs, channelizing devices and lighting devices, the five parts of a traffic zone, and definitions and diagrams. Emphasis is placed on the causes of traffic and non traffic accidents. Includes flagging safety.  THIS COURSE REQUIRES PROPER ATTIRE:  WORK BOOTS, WORK SHIRT AND WORK PANTS.   back
 
 
BRIDGE ZONE SAFETY: 
Emphasis is placed on bridge safety.  THIS COURSE REQUIRES PROPER ATTIRE:  WORK BOOTS, WORK SHIRT AND WORK PANTS.
 
 
CUTTING & BURNING:  
40 hour course that covers the proper techniques in oxygen-acetylene cutting of iron and steel. During this presentation, you have an opportunity to set up cylinders, hook up regulators, and check for cylinder leaks. Other materials used for this course are liquid oxygen and propane. Plasma arc and lancing rod cutting are also covered.  PROPER ATTIRE REQUIRED:  WORK BOOTS, WORK SHIRT AND WORK PANTS.
 
 
SKID STEER:  
16 hour course that covers the operation of a skid steer and the attachments for this versatile piece of equipment. Hands on operation makes this a fun course and adds real appeal to your skill sets.
